Gates, Chaplain, Washington Heights•Chapter D. A. R. Address by George Frederick Kunz, Ph. D., Sc. D. Fifteenth Annual Report. 353 good deed lives on in the memory of after generations and inspiresthem to higher and ever higher effort. Although none of us here present may ever be called upon totake up arms in defense of our country as did the heroes of theRevolution and those of our other wars, nevertheless we all haveto fight the battle of life, to combat error and wickedness and tostrive for truth and goodness, and this battle is often the hardestto fight. This tribute of the living to the deadis just and proper; but are not far deeper feelings aroused whenwe stand on the spot where brave men, whose example is an inspi-ration for ages, have laid down their lives, willingly and gladly, for the success of a great and pure cause ? Such a spot is hallowedground, and we feel as though the spirits of those who have gonestill linger here
