The only yard here is that of Theo-dore Brousseau. He has about 90 acres of clay land. The clay,which is mined with plow and scrapers, is obtained from the terraceeast of the yard. It is mostly blue and covered by a few feet ofloam. The yard lies some TOO feet from the river and the bricksare carted down to the dock. Brousseaus property extends westto the West Shore railroad, and the farms north and south of himare underlain by clay. Maiden, Ulster co. The clay at Cooney & Farrells yard tothe north of the village is mostly yellow, and lies 10 to 20 feetthick on the upturned edges of the Hudson river shales. Thisyard was started in 1891. Their clay is mostly blue andrises in a bank to the hight of 130 feet. It has been excavatedto 8 feet above mean tide. The upper 10 feet is yellow sand;a thin strip of yellow clay separates it from the red. The lowerthird of the bank is somewhat sandy; the best results are obtainedby a mixture of the upper and lower portions of the clay. Bothpallets and open yards are used for drying; the former at the yardsituated on the terrace. A short distance below AYashburn Bros,is F. M. Yan Dusens yard. The clay is blue, 70 feet thick andis underlain by shale whose surface is glaciated. Several feet ofloam overlie the clay. Tempering sand is brought from Wilburon Rondout creek. J.
