English: Barye modeled this statuette while employed by the goldsmith Jacques Henri Fauconnier (1779-1839). To conceal the fact that this piece and Walters 27.75 are of different metal alloys, they have been gilded and mounted on similar, though not identical, late 18th-century-style marble bases.
