At the left, a lively lady is talking to two otherladies and to a gentleman who has reached the period which Victor Hugo so prettily calls theold age of youth. On a sofa before the large window are seated a young lady and a young-man, the girl at one end and the youth at the other. The right-hand corner is occupied by alarge table set out with the usual apparatus for tea-drinking; and here, facing us, are seatedtwo children who are being served with tea by one of the ladies, while on this side of thetable a lady is seated, with her back to us, contemplating the children, and wondering per-haps how long it will be before these little bubbles of fashionable life and indulgence willreach the last point of attenuation and be blown quite away.
