Why should we try to geta lot of additional industries on the Sys-tem when it is generally understood thatwe now have more business than we cantake care of; and that, if we could takecare of twenty-five or thirty per cent,more business than we now handle itwould be offered to us because of ourconnections and other railroads beingunable to handle the business that isbeing offered them? Let us discuss thissituation and see if there is anythingthat the Traffic Department or theCommercial Development Departmentcan do, and, of course, we must discussit along the lines outlined by our presi-dent this morning. What can we do tohelp win the war? In working out the reorganization,he continued, it seemed that in someways the railroads were not proceedingalong the same lines as do industrialcompanies, that is, that in handlingbusiness presented them in lean years theyhad fallen somewhat in a rut. Some-times officers in charge of traffic said— well, there isnt any business now, so wecant get it, or, there isnt enoughbusinessto go around and we are gettingall we can.
