invoices are approved by the Purchasing Agent, as to price,and passed to the Auditing Department, where they are ready for payment. There is on file in the Purchasing Department complete informationrelative to every commodity that is required by the Commission, whichis of great deal of assistance in making purchases. In order to give the best service at the least cost to the State HighwayCommission, the Purchasing Department keeps a complete file of pricesof materials and supplies regularly purchased by the Commission, and,by this method, it can be ascertained readily where such materials andsupplies may be purchased most economically. In cases of purchase of other than ordinary and regular supplies, com-petitive prices are always secured, by~which method possibly the greatestsaving of all is effected for the Commission. Thousands and thousands of dollars are being saved the Commissionannually by the operation of this Department, in addition to the servicerendered in many other ways.

State Highway Commission 47 PUBLICATIONS AND STATISTICS This department acts in the capacity of an information bureau for personsinterested in the work of the Commission and tourists desiring road mapsor information in regard to routes and road conditions in this and otherStates. During the period covered by this report a large amount of infor-mation of this nature has been disseminated both by correspondence andby interview with the engineer in charge. Particularly has this been truesince the reorganization took place and the State has become so widelyknown on account of the road program now being carried -out. Almostdaily requests are received for information and data on State Highwaywork and photographs showing same. A file of photographs of construc-tion work is kept in this department and prints are available on shortnotice.
