Beschrijving : Bijschrift "Rescue at sea" [Redding op zee]
Annotatie : Repronegatief. Het Portugese vrachtschip ss. 'Maria Amelia' pikt de schipbreukelingen van het vrachtschip ss. 'Polyphemus' (1930) van de Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij 'Oceaan' op, nadat het schip op weg van Sydney naar Engeland (via het Panama-kanaal), onder kapitein C. Koningstein, op 468 mijl van New York werd getorpedeerd door de Duitse onderzeeboot 'U 578'. Hierbij kwamen 15 opvarenden om het leven.
