Nederlands: Collectie / Archief : Fotocollectie Van de Poll Reportage / Serie : Reis naar Indonesië Reacties Geplaatst door Anoniem op 20 september 2017 - 17:47. Het betreft hier een Brits Indische militair van het 8e Punjab Regiment. In 1945 behoorde dit regiment tot de 26e Indian Infantry Division van het Brits Indische leger. Hoewel formeel reeds ontbonden, was deze divisie in 1945-46 voornamelijk op Sumatra actief (en enkele eenheden op Java). Punjab is een streek op de grens van het huidige India en Pakistan. Na de onhanhankelijkheid van Brits-India is het regiment onderdeel geworden van de krijgsmacht van Pakistan. Het 8e Punjab Regiment heeft dus helemaal niets te maken de Gurkhas, die komen nl. uit Nepal. |
