English: Queen Victoria was proud of her Scottish ancestry, and this was reflected in the popularity of Scottish design visible in jewelry dating to the Romantic Period (1837-1860). During this period, brooches incorporating the foot of a game bird set in gold or silver and adorned with gems became fashionable.
