BEAUTIFUL
MAS.
The Jxias produce their
beautiful flowers in spikes,
and are of the most daz-
zling and brilliant colors,
and sure to attract great at-
tention. It is only a few
years that they have been
grown in this country to
any great extent, but in
that time, like the Freesia,
they have become very
popular. For pot culture
in the house they give
great satisfaction, being of
easy culture and free
bloomers. Half a dozen
bulbs can be planted in a
five-inch pot, and the dis-
play will be magnificent.
For open ground culture
give them Winter protec-
tion with leaves or straw.
They are very cheap, and
allloversof odd and beau-
tiful flowers should cer-
tainly add them to their
collection. The sorts I
offer are new and very
fine. Good plants, 2 cts.
each; six for 15 cents;
25 cents per dozen.
Freesia Rel
No description can do adequate justice to this
beautiful plant. The flowers are two inches long
and about the same in width, shaped like miniature
Gladioli and borne in clusters of six to ten on de-
pressed horizontal scapes. The body of the flower
is pure white, with lower segments spotted lemon
yellow. The perfume is most delicious, being a mix-
ture of Mignonette, Violet and Jasmine, and one
plant is sufficient to perfume a large room, without
the overbearing perfume of Hyacinths or Tuberoses.
The planthas tooth-shaped bulbs andflat, spreading
leaves. Its cultivation is the simplest, requiring only
to be potted in October, to be watered sparingly at
first, placed in a sunny window and watered more
as growth progresses. When out of flower store
in some place and repot at proper season in fresh
soil for another year's growth. 3 cents each;
six fine bulbs for 15 cents; twelve for 25 cts.
OXALIS.
Ixias,
THE BERMUDA
BUTTERCUP....
An Unrivaled Winter Flowering
Pot Plant.
This is one of the finest Winter flower-
ing plants for pot culture that I have
ever seen. It is such a strong, luxuriant
grower that one bulb will be sufficient for
a six or eight-inch pot. Place in a dark,
cool position for a few weeks to root
thoroughly, and remove to a sunny situa-
tion in the window or conservatory, in a
temperature of about 60 deg. Fahrenheit,
and the great profusion of bloom pro-
duced in uninterrupted abundance for
weeks will astonish and delight you.
Flowers of the purest bright buttercup
yellow. Well grown plants have pro-
duced as high as seventy flower stems at
one time, and over one thousand flowers
in one season. The flowers, and frequent-
ly the leaves, fold up at night and open
again the next morning, but when grown
in a partially shaded situation the flowers
remain open all the time. Properly
treated, the plants will flower in six
weeks from the time the bulbsare planted.
I do not claim the Bermuda Buttercup
Oxalis to be strictly a new plant, but
a greatly improved selection from Oxalis
Cernua, grown in the congenial soil and
• climate of Bermuda until the bulbs have
attained great strength, producing bulbs,
plants and flowers larger and more lux-
uriantin all partsthan the type. Excels
all bulbous plantsin profusion of bloom.
It is graceful, and delights all who see it.
4 cents each; 40 cents per dozen.
OXALIS.
These varieties of Oxalis are all for Winter blooming,

mass of flowers all Winter, which m brilliant and beautiful color7a7et^

It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.
