must have had classes in educational principles andmethods of teaching school subjects. Our final estimate of a studentteacher represents her ability as a woman and as a teacher to trainchildren. She must show evidence of good scholarship, ability topresent school work and to discipline a schoolroom, and a rightattitude toward the serious work of training children. EXCURSIONS The Normal is within easy reach of the scenes of four of the greatbattles of the War between the States—the Battle of Fredericksburg,Chancellorsville, Spottsylvania, and the Wilderness. Frequent excursions can be made to these battle-grounds by variousclasses, and there they have the opportunity to study on the field theplan of battle. Numerous excursions are made by various classes and parties underthe care of members of the faculty to Eichmond and to AVashington.These trips are helpful, interesting, and instructive. Few cities offer more places of historic and educational interest tothe student than Eichmond.
