Prominence is given to methods of inves-tigation, and students are encouraged in independent research. GEOLOGY. During the second and third terms of the Senior year Geologyis studied. Le Contes Elements is used as a text. The museumcollection of minerals and fossils furnishes illustration material,and the work is supplemented when practicable by excursions forthe examination of natural sections and railroad cuts in the vicin-ity of Cedar Rapids. STRUCTURE OF TYPICAL PLANTS. In the first term of the Junior year Invertebrate types of ani-mal life are studied. HEBREW. BY DR. BURKHALTER. Under the head of Electives, students intending to study forthe Christian Ministry, can elect Hebrew, three periods a weekduring the Senior Year. It will afford an opportunity to men inactive life to join this class in the study of the original language

Coe College has a Preparatory Department, or an Academy,that will equal any similiar school in the country for excellence intraining and symmetry in preparation for entrance to college. Tothis end, they have a room especially arranged wherein preparatorystudents are constantly under the direction of the Head Master.Prof. J. A. Rockfellow is at the head of this department, andthrough his efforts it has taken a high position as a College Prepara-tory School. Students in this department will be required to spendtheir time in the room under the eye and direction of the headmaster.
