Description

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Coutances, Manche, Normandie, France

English: East-most stained glass window in the southern section of the ambulatory, created c. 1225–1230 with restorations by Joseph Villiet in 1862 and by Atelier Petit in 1983. The window presents twelve scenes from the life of Saint Lô in six rows of two panels each. From bottom to top:
  1. Presentation of 12 year-old Lô to the clergy of Coutances. The archbishop of Rouen, Saint Gildard, is instructed by an angel regarding the young Lô.
  2. Childebert I grants the crozier to St. Lô. Consecration of St. Lô.
  3. Miraculous mass of St. Lô where a dove appeared above the altar in representation of the Holy Spirit. Healing of a blind woman.
  4. Saint Lô carries out the funeral of Paternus, bishop of Avranches. Saint Lô pays homage to St. Marcouf and his companions at his funeral
  5. Saint Lô on his ride to Childebert I to ask for help for his people. Saint Lô thwarts the attempt of four demons to bring down a tree on him and his companions during their lunch.
  6. Death and funeral of Saint Lô.

NOTE: This image is a panorama consisting of 4 frames that were merged or stitched in Adobe Lightroom Classic 12.5. As a result, this image necessarily underwent some form of digital manipulation. These manipulations may include blending, blurring, cloning, and colour and perspective adjustments. As a result of these adjustments, the image content may be slightly different from reality at the points where multiple images were combined. This manipulation is often required due to lens, perspective, and parallax distortions.
