English: DEFRA walk - Stede Court Estate The nearby sign board carries a map and says,
"This site is on the scarp slope of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As such it falls within a very prominent and visible landscape feature that stretches right across Kent. Native broadleaf trees and shrubs have been planted, under the Forestry Authority's Woodland Grant Scheme, to reinstate old woods that have been cleared of storm damage, and to extend planting over the crest of the downs. Under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme part of the site was sown with a mix of appropriate grasses and wild flowers indigenous to our chalk soils. Both the newer sward and the old chalk grassland are being managed by extensive grazing. Both of the above schemes have helped secure permissive open access over the site."
