The building itself is shownon the right, with its colonnades and balconies and domedroof. It stands in a spacious plaza, the approach to which isby a bridge with a fine roof supported on noble columns. Loed Davey. No. 130SIB PETER LELY 1617—1680PORTRAIT OF THE EARL OF CLARENDON This is a three-quarter length portrait of the famous earlseated in his peers robes. His cloak of crimson velvet fallsin a graceful fold, showing fine composition of vertical anddiagonal lines, accentuated by the pose of his right arm andhand, with which he is apparently enforcing a point of hisspeech. Height, 50 inches; width, 40 inches. Purchased of Thomas Agnew & Sons, London.
