Summary[edit]
DescriptionDismantled Railway - geograph.org.uk - 1097039.jpg |
English: Dismantled Railway Part of the original Lewes-Uckfield line opened in 1858 that began as a junction on the Wivelsfield line. However, trains using this line had to reverse at Lewes so a new line was built in 1868 heading north out of Lewes and rejoining the original line towards the eastern edge of this grid square, this part was dismantled. The Lewes-Uckfield line closed in 1969 though there have been periodic attempts to reopen it and if it does happen the original 1858 route would be used. |
