That others will surpass the record I have made,both as regards the number of horses driven and thetime recorded, is highly probable, and yet I canfrankly say that my ambition is measurably gratified.I have certainly achieved a far greater success than Ihad reason to anticipate at the dawn of a career towhich my mature years have been devoted ; and if, inthe years to come, I shall witness higher achievementsby others than I have been able to obtain, I shall everbe ready and willing to extend to him or them thesame cordial greeting with which I have always beenfavored.
