Antes deesta época, como observa el malogrado Cantón Salazaren su Monografía, hist. ar-queológica de este Palacio, usó la familia de Velasco las aspas de San Andrés enla bordura del escudo. t

Solemne y espaciosa,en armonía con la grandeza de aquellos proceres que erigían tansuntuosa morada, conserva la escalera «su artesonado con biensentidas molduras, y los elevados muros ostentan á su mayoraltura ornacinas con bustos de personajes indumentados á la he-roica; > y si bien ha experimentado muy dolorosas alteracioneseste Palacio así en la fachada como en el interior, perdiendo enaquella la unidad característica de la obra al reemplazar por vul-gares balcones las fenestras que ostentaba, y desapareciendo enaquél la riqueza de que hubieron á porfía de hacer alarde portantas causas, lo mismo el famoso Condestable que sus suceso-res (i), todavía y durante largos tiempos continuará aún y porderecho propio excitando la atención del arqueólogo, cual des-pertará muy dulces imaginaciones en aquellos que sueñan con elpasado, al considerar la altez
