English: The 78 boys in the Farah City Orphanage, whose Afghan name translated in English literally means "Kindergarteners," sleep on bunk beds in an open barracks when they are not staying with their families, Dec. 10, Farah, Afghanistan. The orphanage is not like that of an American orphanage; the Afghan boys and 60 girls have families they belong to but do not have a father, brother, or other leading male figure to oversee their educational studies and upbringing. The orphanage opened sometime between 2001 and 2002 and employs three daytime teachers and one night time teacher, three managers, one nurse and seven more staff members to clean and cook three square meals a day. |
