Summary[edit]

Warning The original file is very high-resolution. It might not load properly or could cause your browser to freeze when opened at full size.
Description
English: View of Gallier Hall (old City Hall) New Orleans during a Carnival parade.

Original caption: Rex receiving the key at City Hall, Mardi Gras day, New Orleans, La.'

Notes: Letters "K O P" hang above doorway of City Hall. This probably stands for "Krewe of Proteus", an old-line Krewe which parades on "Lundi Gras", the day before Mardi Gras, strongly suggesting that that parade is the actual subject of the photo. (According to the late New Orleans historian and postcard collector Al Rose, many postcards of this era claiming to show Mardi Gras Day actually show earlier celebrations, as these were easier to photograph and there would be no problems with revelers in startling costumes in the photograph; when there are no visible costumes in the crowds, it is probably not actually Mardi Gras Day.)
