the mainlandthere are numbers of inlets, some of them extending sixty to seventymiles inland, and at the heads of all these inlets there are a great manygrizzlies, wdiile black bear may be found anywhere. \ery few of theCoast Indians care about hunting the grizzly, so that they are practi-cally unmolested. In the fall, when the salmon are running, they areeasily obtained, but the spring hunting is the best, as the skins arethen in their prime. Goats are plentiful everywhere on the mainland.There are a great many wolves all along the coast and also on mostof the large islands, but they are very difficult to get. Caribou are very plentiful in the northern interior, and there arealso a few moose; sheep are only found in the extreme north; theyare of the Ozis stonci variety. There is most excellent trolling for salmon both in the spring andthe fall, and. in fact, at some place or another most of the year. Allthe lakes and small streams swarm with trout. It is a great districtfor wildfowl.

Anybodycoming here on a hunting-trip should endeavour to engage his guidesome time beforehand, so as to get the very best of them. Nor shouldhe hesitate to pay a good price to a good man. as the whole trip willdepend on him. There may be lots of game in the country, but without a manwho knows his business much time will be wasted in hunting fortrails instead of game. Horses will get lost, camps will be poorlymade, and any number of drawbacks are bound to occur. Moreover,such game as sheep, goats, and bear are more or less local in theirhabits; other game, such as moose, caribou, deer, etc., change theirrange according to the season; weather conditions, winds, etc., ha\eall to be studied; and, no matter what previous experience in shootinga man may have had, he cannot have the necessary local knowledge.
