building. Upon the floor of this Central Hall the followingMarble Statues, with Stone bases, have been placed : — SUBJECTS. ARTISTS. Earl Russell BoEHM. Earl of Iddesleigh BoEHM. Earl Granville H. THORNYCROFT, R.A. W. E. Gladstone F. W. PoMEROY. UPPER AND LOWER WAITING HALLS. Leaving the Central Hall by the archway to the east, weenter a square chamber called the Lower Waiting Hall, pavedalso in tiles from the factory of Messrs. Minton, and bearing theinscriptions, Virtue prevails, and Love and Fidelity toour Country. In this Hall is the statue of John Bright, by ALBERT BRUCEJoy. Here also is a remarkable bust of Oliver Cromwell inmarble, on marble pedestal : ascribed to GIOVANNI LORENZOBERNINI, contemporary with the great Protector. The likenessis strikingly real. An inscription runs :— OLIVARIUS REIP ANGLSCOT ET HIB PROTECTOR. The Royal Arms are sculpturedon the face of the pedestal. The bust was presented to theHouse of Commons by the late Mr. Charles Wertheimer, thecelebrated
