La mort le surprit au milieu du travail, en 1469; Vasari prétend que lesparents dune femme quil aimait le firent empoisonner, mais rien ne confirmecette version. Le Fra confia par son testament léducation du petit Filippiiio àson disciple et collaborateur Fra Diamante. Laurent le Magnifique, fidèle ausouvenir de lartiste qui avait été pour la famille des Médicis un véritable amide cœur, lui fit élever dans la cathédrale de Spolète un mausolée digne de lui. Fra Filippo a laissé un œuvre fort considérable et a marqué sa place dans I. Un maître éminent, D.
