HISTORY OF HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO. served as justice of the peace for six years. He has alsobeen a trustee for the township for the past five years,and is a member of the executive board of the Agricul-tural Society of Hamilton county. In the late war hewas a member of company C, Sixty-ninth Ohio infantry,and was honorably discharged. CROSBY VILLAGE. Next below Butterfield & Companys tract, on thewest side of the river, a large piece was bought by JoabComstock the same year. In 1803 he laid out a townsite in what appeared to be an ehgible place near theGreat Miami, below the famous bend, about two milessouth of the county line, and gave the new town thename of Crosby, for the reason before given. For atime settlement was attracted thither, and its fortune wasdecidedly hopeful. A number of cabins and otherhouses were built; a blacksmith shop and store beganoperations; other shops were opened; and many lotswere sold.
