Dead Gazelle
Description
English: The African gazelle lies on the ground, its legs awkwardly splayed, and its neck extended at an unnatural angle. The artist has conveyed the appearance of death with remarkable realism. A plaster model of this sculpture was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1833. The following year, Barye cast this unique bronze version, which was the first of Barye's bronzes acquired by the duke of Orléans.
