epers and the LocalAuthorities. It originated in the Famine of 1897,which here, as elsewhere, drove many destitute lepersto seek relief. But, unlike their healthy kindred, they were still needy and helpless when the faminewas at an end, and the presence of 125 of them wasa difficult problem for the municipality. They received us with hymns well and brightlysung, and when Mr. Nottrott had interpreted my fewwords of greeting, they escorted us to the MissionStation. One quaint little lassie of three or four, after a little coaxing, trotted by the side of the dandyand held my hand, a privilege for which there weresoon several competitors.
