Buckler Jr., (left), Joint Force Engineer Command commander, engages the handle of a detonator to safely destroy a simulated improvised explosive device under the instructions of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Sean Purdy, a 539th Explosive Hazards Team instructor and Springfield, Ill., native, during a walkthrough of Blow in Place-Theater Specific Training, Feb. 23. The four-day BIP-TST training event is designed to equip combat engineers and route clearance platoons in Afghanistan with the knowledge and capabilities to identify and destroy certain types of IEDs without the help of explosive ordnance disposal personnel.
