Description
Svenska: Kristusfigur av s. k. parian på slät fyrsidig fotplatta med urholkad undersida. Utförd efter Berthel Thorvaldsens modell. Figurinen har sin förebild i den danske skulptören Bertel Thorvaldsens Kristus, som gjordes för Vor Frue Kirke i Köpenhamn 1821 och som utfördes i marmor 1839. Den blev en ikonliknande skulptur som spreds i bild och i kopior av alla de slag. Thorvaldsens arbeten fick stor betydelse som förlagor inom 1800-talets konsthantverk. När Bing & Gröndahl startade sin porslinstillverkning i Köpenhamn 1853 var en av de första produkterna biskvifigurer och just Thorvaldsens skulpturer var det man anhöll om tillstånd att få kopiera. Vid Höganäs kärlfabrik framställdes Thorvalsens reliefer på hushålls- och prydnadskärl. Att Thorvaldsen fick ett eget museum i Köpenhamn, som öppnade 1848 bidrog också till att upphöja honom som sin tids störste skulptör. Flera andra av hans skulpturer avbildades i parian vid Gustavsberg. Denna Kristusfigur är från 1870-talet och den tillverkades vid Gustavsberg mellan åren 1872-1925. Fabriken grundlagd 1825 av grosshandklaren J.H.Öhman och kommerserådet J.O.Wennberg. Efter att ha varit i olika ägares händer inköptes företaget 1875 av Aktiebolaget Gustafsbergs Fabriks Intressenter.Till 1855 tillverkades endast fajans men från detta år även s.k. halväkta porslin (ironstone china) från 1864 dessutom fältspatäkta porslin. Pris: okänt. Inköpt under 1870-talets första hälft av WvH i Gustafsbergs försäljningslokal på Lilla Nygatan 14, Sthlm.
