On still slower cooling pearliteis obtained and the structure recalls veryStrongly the phenomenon of periodic precipita-t inn. Fig. 8 shows the Liesegang rings obtainedby the precipitation of silver chromato ingelatin. These recall the appearance of pearlitein a very striking manner. We see, therefore,that colloidal chemistry gives an explanationf tho reason for the peculiar laminated struc-ture of pearlite, an explanation which will holdgood for all other eutectics. It is unfortunatethat the ult ramie rose ope does not lend itself to the study of alloys, but as pointed out earlier,other methods are available, and no doubtadvantage will be taken of them in time to findout if that which at tho present time is merelyconjecture can be demonstrated by experiment.
