His latestinvention is for supporting thecoupler pin in an unlockingposition—an operation whichis performed in a sim-ple and ingenious fash- -ion. The Canadian Gov-ernment has intro-duced an eight-hoursystem into all officesand works that are un-der its control. The Martin Anti-Fire Car Heater Co.,of Dunkirk, N. Y., has been absorbed bythe Consolidated Heating & LightingCo.

Pa., a short time ago, Isaw in operation a device that, to me, wasespecially commendable. How many of your machinist readersare to-day stoop-shouldered from havingto pinch an engine around over theshop (and yard), setting her valves? Mr. J. C. Glass, master mechanic, hasobviated this trouble in a way that is ap-plicable to all shops that are not alreadyequipped with some device for this pur-pose. He mounts the main driver of theengine on four rollers, adjustable to anywheel—a device familiar to many; but tothe ends of the shafts passing through The Illinois Central Repair Shops. Railroad men interested in engineeringestablishments, visiting Chicago, havegenerally considered that the most inter-esting place to be seen in the neighbor-hood was the Pullman Car Works.
