Lewis is president, with a faculty of eighteenmembers. The students number two hundred and fifty-eight. THE WOMANS COLLEGE OP BALTIMORE. The Womans College is an institution founded by the MethodistEpiscopal Church for the higher education of women. It was incorporatedin 1884, and opened in 1888, but did not send forth any graduates until1892. Its buildings, of massive granite, are in the northern part of the city,at and near the junction of St. Paul and Twenty-second streets. Themain building, called Goucher Hall, in .honor of the president, the Rev.John F. Goucher, D.D., to whose zealous labors and lavish generosity thesuccess of the whole foundation is largely due, immediately adjoins theFirst Methodist Church, which serves as the college chapel, being con-nected with Goucher Hall by a bridge. Bennett, of Baltimore, in memory of his wife,and used as the gymnasium—one of the most extensive in the world forthe exclusive use of women, containing all the best modern appliances,as swimming-pool, &c. The physical culture department is in charge ofa professor who is a doctor of medicine, and the Swedish system oftraining is used, the instructors being graduates of the Royal Instituteof Stockholm. The resident students live in three handsome buildingserected for the purpose in the vicinity of the college, and arranged andfitted up with the most careful attention to health and comfort. It hasalso a preparatory department, the Girls Latin School, with a separatecorps of instructors. In 1892, there were 208 students in the preparatory school and 124in the College, of whom only 55 were from Baltimore. The funds of the Male Free School, founded in 1802, and of theColvin Institute
