[edit]DescriptionMelville Drive unicorn - geograph.org.uk - 1316086.jpg |
English: Melville Drive unicorn, Edinburgh. The unicorn statue on one of two ornamental pillars at the eastern end of Melville Drive. Unicorns were the supporters on the armorial bearings of Scotland's royal family, the Stewarts. When James VI of Scotland became James I of Great Britain in 1603, one of the unicorns was replaced by an English lion on the new British royal coat of arms. |
