asof chiseled marble, clean cut, unsoiled, justfrom the sculptors hand! Turning back roundthe circling ridge, following on and on pastmany a turret spire, which you could not passbut that you know you can come back to it, anddown here to the southward, rising up from theclustering hills at its base, boldly outlinedgainst the space behind, stands the old-timemonarch, Mt. The city seemed to 25 Memory Pictures. be peopled with all the great and small of life—crowned heads, rulers of kingdoms, and hum-bler folk as well. I could seem to see thecastles pinnacled and turreted with shininggold, and other dwellings less pretentious andmore lowly for those who loved the quietwalks of life—all so beautif
