Mystery holdfasts (small, light-colored structures at right) + crinoid holdfasts on the inner concave surface of a Latitemnocheilus sp. nautiloid shell fragment (14 x 11 mm) from the Pennsylvanian of eastern Ohio. There are no encrusters on the outer, convex surface of the nautiloid shell fragment. Stratigraphy: fissile carbonaceous shale to calcareous gray shale just above the Poverty Run Limestone, upper Morrowan, upper Lower Pennsylvanian Locality: Irish Ridge East outcrop - top of low roadcut on northern side of east-bound entrance ramp from Rt. 60 to Rt. 16, ~2.3 miles north-northwest of Dresden, northern Cass Township, Muskingum County, eastern Ohio, USA |
