TH& B/\LTlMORL& BOOK BALTIMORES WIRES UNDERGROUND In maintaining its own electrical conduit system, Baltimorestands unique as being the first American City of importanceto provide underground accommodation for wires and cablestransmitting all classes of electrical energy. The entire central portion of the City is served by theMunicipal system, and the work of laying extensions to themore remote sections is progressing rapidly. Three million dol-lars have already been invested in the plan, and during thefall of 1912 the people of the City approved an additionalloan of $2,000,000 to be expended in a continuation of thework. By virtue of certain Legislative enactment, it is made manda-tory on the part of wire-operating corporations and individualsto remove, upon notice of the completion of the system invarious given districts, their poles and overhead wires and, insubstitution therefor, to install cables in the conduits.
