English: Afghanistan Minister Ghulam Wardak, Ministry of Education, and U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Timothy McHale, deputy commander-support, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, cut the ribbon to officially open the new Sar Asyab Girls High School building Saturday in Kabul, Afghanistan. The new 17-room building compliments three other current school buildings to enable the school to accommodate 3,500 students. The $290,000 project was funded by the U.S. Forces-Afghanistan Commander’s Emergency Response Program. It is one of 6,000 projects currently being funded by U.S. Forces-Afghanistan CERP’s $400 million yearly budget. Maj. Gen. Timothy McHale, deputy commander-support, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan; Afghanistan Minister Ghulam Wardak, Ministry of Education; Toran Ishaq, Sar Asyab village elder; students and their families and school officials attended the ceremony. A complementary CERP-funded program has been approved by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates to provide $9 million to purchase texts books for every school in Afghanistan. |
