If all these plans are carried out, there will beno lack of teams entering the first championship tournamentever held in the district, arrangements for which are now beingmade by the committee in charge of basket ball in the SouthAtlantic district, which is proposed to start after January i,1908. The question of which team is entitled to the title of Cham-pions has never been settled in this district, as it had beenimpossible to get the various teams to consent to play againstteams who could make some claim to the title. In Baltimoreduring the past season an effort was made several times to havethe City Championship settled; one team, the Belvederes, issuedan open challenge to all teams to play for the title, but couldnot get any acceptance. This cup was put up lastseason, but no series could be arranged, so it is still a prize tobe played for this season, and judging from present indications,there will be no trouble in getting the teams together. In Washington a league was formed early in the season of1906-7, and games were played during the winter—^^the regularseries resulting in a tie for first place between the Second Regi-ment team of the A.A., N.G., D. C, and the team representingCarroll Institute. The title was finally won by Carroll Institute. At Richmond a league of six teams in the Y.M.C.A. played aseries of four games for each team; this league was formedwith the idea of developing players, and was successful, as theRichmond Y.M.C.A. will be represented by one or two goodstrong teams in open games this year.
