llasting and track-laying, the removal andplacing of a.ll miterial necessary for the formation of the road bed, the build-ing of all structures, digging of all pits, ditches and drains, the necessaryalterations and diversions of roads and streams, the formation of all embank-ments, exca.vations and ditches required for such diversions, and for cross-roads, farm crossings, depot grounds, sidings, etc., the building of all woodenbox culvert, rip-rap, etc., and in short all the work that may be required tocomplete the road bed of a single track railway to grade, between a point ««toi* near North Bay to a point on Lake Temiskaming or to a point in one ofthe Townships adjacent thereto of the Temiskaming a.nd Northern OntarioRailway, bein^i: 110 miles more or less. The right of way will be in general 99 feet wide, 49 1-2feet on eaeh side of the centre line; and where the line passes through 1»02 AND NORTHERN ONTARIO RAILWAY COMMISSION. 29

30 THE REPORT OF THE TEMISKAMING No. 49 wooded land the rigiil of way must be clea.ned of all timber, brush, etc.; itmust be either burned or removed from the right of way. The timber, brush,stumps or roots shall not in any case be piled upon adjacent lands. Theymust invariably be made into piles near the centre of the space to be clea.red,a-nd there entinsly consumed as the work progresses. Wherever directed bythe Engineer, for a width of 10 feet on each side of the centre, all stumpsshall be cut to within 12 inches of the ground. Places at which additiona.lright of way has been acquired, may or may not be cleared as the Engineermay direct. All timber found on the right of way and suitaible for ties,trestles, culvert timber, fence posts and telegraph poles, shall be manufac-tured by the contractor according to sizes and dimensions a.s furnished bythe Engineer, and paid for according to his schedule of prices, and piled onthe rig:ht of way as directed by the Engineer.
