SOUTH AFRICA NATIVES In some parts of Africa where the natives have been civ-ihzed and enhghtened, it is claimed that there is much discus-sion on the subject of Africa for the Africans. It has been,stated that the negroes emigrating from the United Statesto Africa are preaching this doctrine. There are only aboutone and one-half millions of whites in all South Africa, not in-cluding British East Africa and West Africa. They couldnot hold this country if the millions of natives were armed,educated and had a leader who could hold the various factionstogether, a condition which is not likely to occur in a thousandyears. In the study of geography in our boyhood school dayswe were taught something about the nations being uncivil-ized, half civilized, civilized and enlightened, and we confessthat we never realized what these terms really meant, untilcoming on this trip, and here w^e have seen all the above men-tioned grades of humanity.
