In 1833,Mother Angela Sansbury followed her little com-munity to Somerset. By it she was again called tothe arduous duties of prioress, which office she helduntil her holy and beautiful death, on March 30,1839. This first foundation of the Dominican Sisterswas destined to become a motive power for religionand education in Ohio, and in turn to be the prolificmother of other missions. With an increasing num-ber of pupils and a growing community, the sistersenlarged their home until in 1866, Saint Mary wasone of the recognized institutions of learning in Ohio.That year, fire reduced the splendid institution toashes, and the community, all but crushed by thedisaster, knew not where to turn for relief.
