Nederlands: Pelgrimsinsigne AmsterdamTijdens de middeleeuwen was het maken van een pelgrimstocht een populaire manier om steun bij God te vragen voor de genezing van ziekten of het kwijtschelden van zonden. Pelgrims reisden naar graven en relieken van heiligen en andere heilige plaatsen, in de hoop iets van die goddelijke kracht over te nemen. Uit de bezochte plaatsen namen de pelgrims insignes mee, als aandenken en krachtbron. Pelgrimsinsignes zijn doorgaans van lood en tin gemaakt in de vorm van een heilige of heilige gebeurtenis. Dankzij het Mirakel van Amsterdam (1345) groeide onze hoofdstad in de late middeleeuwen ook uit tot bedevaartsoord. Er worden nog steeds af en toe pelgrimsinsignes opgegraven gerelateerd aan het Mirakel, zoals deze.
