EVERBEARING TYPE Characteristics similar to the
Brown Turkey, otherwise it starts to bear early in the
season and continues to bear fruit into late fall. This
variety is very attractive as to bush and is used much
6r ornamental purposes.
CELESTE Most widely planted of all figs in the south-
eastern fig areas. It is hardy and can be grown where
less hardy varieties fail. Fruit is medium in size, skin
violet, flesh white to rose color, firm, juicy, sweet and of
excellent quality.
^ Japanese Fan Tail Willow
(Salix sachalinense Sekka)
This is a strange, Japanese-y plant that's straight from the Orient
and as crooked as can be . . . the willow that doesn't know which
way it ought to grow. It will be the most talked about plant in your
garden. A medium spreading shrub that's fluffy with soft, silvery cat-
kins in the spring, and attractive all summer dressed in long, narrow,
shinj', green leaves, this mad willow in the fall becomes a home dec-
orator's delight. It is then, when the branches are fully ripened, that
their odd twistings and turnings provide for even the inexperienced
arranger the most arty of Japanese-style decorations. Sometimes the
branches are flat and an inch or so wide, sometimes they're round —
always they grow in the most unexpected direction; and they grow
that way naturally — without the aid of human hands. Spring, summer
and fall in the garden — and all winter in the house — you'll appreci-
ate the unusual beauty of this mysterious, odd-ball plant . . . Salix
sachalinense Sekka.
Heavy 2-yr. field grown plants, 15 to 18 inches: $2.95.
The RARE FRANKUNIA -►
Beautiful blooms and blazing fall foliage bring beauty to any planting.
Flowers start opening in Mid-August and continue to open until hard
frosts. The young leaves are 5 to 6 inches long by about one-third as
wide, a rich dark green with red veining. In Autumn the whole tree blazes
a rich warm color. Produces a beautiful effect in any ornamental planting.
12 to 18 inch $2.95 each
18 to 24 inch $3.95 each
2 to 3 feet $4.95 each
THE WILD ROSE LIVING FENCE
(ROSA MULTIFLORA JAPONICAI
Needi Little Pruning — Disease Free — A living Fence For Years To Come.
Multiflora Roses are being used effectively to decrease
soil erosion, dividing line fences, wind breaks, screens for
unsightly objects, to confine farm animals and as snow
fences in winter.
The plants grow rapidly in most all types of soil and
produce a fence up to eight feet in height in three to
four years, then it stops, getting no taller. The fence
needs no pruning or care after the initial setting.
Where a close hedge or screen is desired, we suggest
planting one foot apart. For more open hedge they may
be planted two or three feet apart in a single row.
The fence is a beautiful sight in bloom putting on a
gorgeous display for about two weeks. Thereafter seed
pods are formed to furnish food for the birds.
