ymeans of powder, ball, bayonet, and sabre, with an occasional burning ofa village or so, and whole acres of growing crops, are treated with themost wicked ingratitude by the forlorn and darkened races ! The follow-ing is very touching :— Ten soldiers were made prisoners. One of them, though wounded, had sufficientcourage and strength left to kill the Arab who had seized him ; but the poor fellow wasimmediately massacred by those around, and his unfortunate comrades suffered thesame fate. Shameful! When the wounded soldier only killed the Arab who hadseized him, what an unheard-of atrocity that tho poor fellow should boimmediately butchered ! It is plain there is no teaching Arabs truegratitude. The goddets of war is an ugly old harridan at the best, but iscertainly never so disgusting as when she weeps such harlot tears. Vert Simple.—A Gentleman last week became a member of the RoyalHumane Society, under the impression that he could have one of theirDrags to go in to Epsom Races.
