English: U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Francisco Latimer, senior drill sergeant instructor, observes as Armed Forces of Liberia 1st Sgt. James Gant, Armed Forces Training Command senior drill sergeant, corrects a trainee who failed to perform a physical training properly during a drill sergeant refresher course at Camp Ware, Liberia. Two U.S. Army instructors from Fort Jackson, S.C., assisted Operation Onward Liberty by teaching a week-long drill sergeant refresher course as the AFL prepares to enlist approximately 150 new recruits. OOL provides mentorship to the AFL to produce a capable, respected force able to protect Liberian interests in the West African region. In addition, the OOL is developing the leadership capabilities of the officers and noncommissioned officers to maintain a professional and credible military force with a reputation as a “force for good” among the Liberian people. |
