Wij verlieten den 4den December dezen hoogst be-langrijken omtrek en voeren nu verder den jSijl opnaar Esnéh, waar wij weder steenkolen innamen, ver-volgens tot Edfou, en verder tot het punt op de rivier,genaamd Gebel el Silsiléh of Djebel Silsiléh (Berg vande ketting), dus genoemd, dewijl deze plaats vroegervolgens eene Arabische overlevering door eene kettingwas afgesloten. » Hier is de groote stuw ontworpen voor Opper-Egypte,tusschen twee rotsoevers, welke den ISijl tot op onge-veer 450 el breedte vernaauwen.
