Summary[edit]

Description
English: Scurf Dike and the old course of the River Hull, Brandesburton, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
All the water courses in the area were man made during the mid 18th century relating to the creation of the Driffield canal. The River Hull (New Cut) and Driffield Canal are dyked such that they are 5 metres above the surrounding farmland which must have very prone to flooding.
Redirecting a river would be a massive infrastructure nowadays so the manpower involved in the 1760's must have been huge. Was there a workers' village?
