We are by far the Largest Growers of Peas in America
and our Stocks are of the Highest Quality.
CULTURE— For early peas the soil should be light and
warm, but for general crop a moderately heavy soil is
better. Fresh manure and very rich or wet mucky soil should
be avoided, as they cause a rank growth of vine at the cost of
the quality of the peas; such soil is often the cause of early
sorts maturing unevenly. Sow as early as possible a few of
the earliest varieties on warm, quick soil, prepared the fall
before. The genei'al crop can be delayed until later, but we
have met with better success from sowing all the varieties
comparatively early, depending for succession upon selecting
sorts that follow each other in ripening. The peas will ma-
ture earlier if covered only one inch deep, and where earliness
is most important they may be treated in that way. but larger
pods and more cf them will be produced if the seed be planted in
trenches three to six inches deep, covered tcith only one or hoo in-
ches of soil. When the plants are five or six inches high, fill the
trench level with the surface: this will secure deep rooting, prevent
mildew and prolong the bearing season. If the peas be covered to
the full depth at first, or if water be allowed to stand in the trenches,
they will not make a good stand of healthy plants.
The crop should be gathered as fast as it is fit for use. If even
u fetv pods begin to riptn, not oyily trill new p)ods cease to form.,
but those partly advanced will stop growing.

IR8T AND BE8T
By most careful comparison we are convinced that this is the ear-
liest and evenest stock of White Extra Early Peas in Existence,
maturing so well together that sometimes
a single picking will secure the entire crop.
Vines vigorous and hardy, two to two and one-
Jialf feet high, unbranched, bearing three to
seven straight pods, having five to seven medi-
um sized, smooth peas of good quality.
The dry peas are medium sized,
■• smooth, yellowish-white.

ESSK PEAS
EARLIEST OF ALL or
ALASKA ^ ^
By careful selection and growing we have developed
stock of this Smooth, blue pea, which in evenness of growth of
vine and early maturity of pods is uyiequaled by any other ex-
tra early pea. Vines two to two and one-half feet high, unbranched,
bearing four to seven long pods which are filled with medium sized,
bright green peas of excellent flavor. Ripe peas small, bluish green.
Matures all the crop at once and is an invaluable variety for market
gardeners and canners. Pkt.lOe; Pt.loc; Qt.25c; 4Qts.75c; Bu.$5.00
GREGORY^S SURPRISE
This new Extra Early wrinkled pea is certain to become very
popular. The vine is no taller than those of the best strains of First
and Best and is as early, continuing longer in condition for use. The
pods are like those of tiie Alpha and the peas are exceedingly tender,
sweet and good flavored. It is unsurpassed in quality. Pkt. 10c;
Pt. 35c; Qt. 55c.
AMERICAN WONDER
A variety nearly as early as the First and Best, with stout,
branching vines about nine inches high, and covered with well filled pods
containing seven or eight large, exceedingly sweet, tender and well
flavored peas. Dry peas medium sized, much wrinkled; pale green. We
have taken great pains in growing our stock, and know it to be pure and
true. Pkt. 10c; Pt. 25c; Qt. 35c; 4 Qts. $1.25; Bushel $6.50
If Peas are ivanted by mail or express prepaid., add 10 cents per
pint., 15 cents per quart, for charges.

These thiee varie-

first early, white
peas similar to

which are fully

It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.
