O 3 rO To,face p. 137. inventory of monuments, etc., in county of berwick. 137 Parish of Mertoun. the dormitory roof within a projecting turret which can still be seenat the south-east angle of the gable. The other doorway gives accessto the sacristy, but the upper part has been unskilfully altered inlater times. The nave had two aisles of six bays, and measures about 95 feetby 55 feet within walls varying from 4 to 5 feet in thickness. Thenorth wall is now all but obliterated with the exception of a fragmentat the north-west angle containing the west jamb of a doorway whichprobably gave access to the nave through an outer porch. The piersof the main arcades are represented by fragmentary bases, many ofwhich are in a ruinous condition. The south wall has been to a greatextent reconstructed, and exists to a height of fully 15 feet.
