The Marylanders, to say theleast, threw themselves open to suspicion ofseeking to worry a sect of people whoseprinciples and practices had been opposed towar and bloodshed. Time and again thegovernor and counsel of Pennsylvaniasought to secure from the Maryland govern-or a temporary adjustment of the boundaryquestion pending the termination of the suitin England. They were as often met withprotestations of like desires to end the trou-bles, but some excuse was always found fornot agreeing to anything.
