Summary[edit]

Description
English: Men clearing debris under the Victoria Bridge during the 1896 Brisbane flood. Floodwaters in the Brisbane River during the second week of February, 1896, were so strong as to cause fears that the temporary wooden structure (opened 7 September 1893) might collapse. Gangs of men were set to clear the debris accumulating around the bridge piles. By 15 February 1896, the bridge was safe, although a number of piles were broken, causing the bridge to sag.
